This is an exciting opportunity to help raise the profile of Scotland’s museums and galleries and highlight the positive impact they have across our communities. You will also play a role in helping to promote the work of MGS, including the launch of a new ambitious programme to support the sector.
You will bring experience from working in a marketing or communications environment and have a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude. Effective communication skills are essential as well as familiarity with a range of marketing tools and good administrative and organisational skills. The ability to multitask and demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative constitutes a natural part of the job.
Responsibilities:
Support marketing and communication activity, to help deliver Museums Galleries Scotland’s aims and objectives
Create engaging written and visual content for website, e-newsletters and social media as required
Keep website information up to date by adding content such as events, case studies, and advice guides
Support with delivery and administration for key MGS events including the annual Strategy Symposium
Assist with evaluation of marketing activity
Carry out social media monitoring and act as a community manager on social media platforms
Maintain MGS mailing lists
Act as a point of contact for the Marketing and Communications team, liaising with internal and external contacts and responding to queries

The above mentioned tasks and responsibilities constitute an overview and not an exhaustive list. Workload and priorities is ultimately determined by the MGS Business Plan and the Capacity Programme plan.

Competencies:
Essential
Experience working in a marketing or communications environment
Strong communication skills including excellent written communication
Familiarity with marketing tools, such as Canva, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, Event Management platforms such as Eventbrite, or equivalents
Confidence using a range of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
Self-motivated with the ability to set and work to deadlines, and a proactive approach
Organisational/administrative skills and attention to detail
Preferred
Knowledge of videography and video editing
Basic knowledge of Google Analytics
Experience of marketing within the Arts/Cultural/Heritage sector
An interest in accessible marketing principles
Interest in museums and the wider heritage and cultural sector
